A Curated Collection of Vintage Turbans
Modern men and women are privileged to have access to an infinite variety of hair products to manipulate sad tresses into any imaginable shape. But our brave predecessors had far fewer options. Back then, a bad hair day could ruin your week. Back then, fashion was the only cure for deadly hair. Hats, snoods, beanies, scarves, buckets (in a pinch), and yes…turbans.
We have for you this week an expertly curated collection of sensational vintage turbans, all available right now from various sellers on eBay and etsy. Click on each image below to see the actual listing.
And if you’re thinking, “there’s no way I could ever pull off a vintage turban!” you’re most likely correct. Only those who fully appreciate the exalted turban deserve to wear one. So march on, sister. March on.

Vintage Halston
“Vintage Halston” may be my most favorite combination of words ever. In fact, if I were into role playing it would probably be my safe word. This week we found this rare 1970s Halston aubergine wool and silk caped gown from the label’s 1976 collection. Offered by jayparkinson on etsy. Click on the image below to see the listing.
Three Plus One
It can be challenging to find great vintage pieces to fit every shape, which makes the three dresses below even more special. The first one is a 1970s-era silk brocade frock from Geoffrey Beene‘s Boutique label so you know it’s expertly crafted. The shirtwaist bodice and a-line skirt would be flattering on just about any body shape and the extra-long ascot can be tied in numerous ways. And check out those amazing rhinestone studded buttons! Such great details here, which is to be expected from this vintage boutique label (41″ bust, 34″ waist).
And below the Geoffrey Beene is a vintage 1960s butterscotch and black plaid jersey dress with neck tie (42″ bust, 36″ waist, 41″ hips).
Finally, we have an adorable powder blue mod day dress with a square neckline and decorative buttons (38″ bust, 34″ waist, 40″ hips).

Lingerie by I.D. Sarrieri
I recently discovered lingerie by I.D. Sarrieri and am in love nearly every piece in the collection. There’s some retro pinup styles but without being too kitschy. There are some nice classics too. Below are a few of my favorite pieces. Click on each image below to see the the listing. Also, check out the “outlet” tab on their website for some great prices.

Midnight Chantilly lace boxers with bleumarine trim.
High waist brief with detachable garters in champagne or black.
An embroidered leather bra that somehow comes off sweet and not fetish. Hidden wire and stretch silk satin.
A Little Biased
This would be an amazing wedding gown for the bride who wants a glamorous vintage look. And even more stunning is the current bid on eBay; only $56. The auction ends in two days. This is an original 1930s bias cut silk gown with train. The open back is incredible and this cut splendidly whittles the waist. Click on the images below to see the full listing.
Mad Men Style: 1960s Fedoras
Today on This Week’s Look, we are sipping afternoon mimosas on the lanai and talking men’s hats. Specifically, vintage 1960s stingy brimmed fedoras, trilbys and Homburgs. Think Leonardo DiCaprio in “Catch Me if You Can.” Sammy and Frank vacationing in Palm Springs.
But enough about Leo, Sammy and Frank, let’s talk about my amazing Harold. He is a hat man. Correction: He is THE hat man. Among other things. And I am, of course, a hat woman, so it is only natural that I should fall in love with a man who can pull off a hat every day of the week. In fact, he is such a natural, I suspect the nurses put a wool felt fedora on him when he was born rather than one of those snuggly newborn skull caps. He is French after all, so one can never be sure what goes on over there. Harold’s hat collection isn’t necessarily staggering. That is to say, his collection will never rival mine in sheer numbers, but it is robust enough to provide a hat for just about any occasion.
Back to my original thought. 1960s trilbys. These short-brimmed hats are destined to become ubiquitous once the new season of Mad Men premieres next year, so if you’re in the market for one, I would do my shopping now before the rise in demand and prices follow. There are some amazing, original 1960s toppers out there right now, and we have selected some of the best for our readers. Click on each image below to see the full listing.
