Because You’re Worth It
This week we’re thrilled to show you this vintage 1950s to 1960s cocktail dress. This vixen boasts a waist-nipping fitted bodice embroidered with pastel metallic floral appliqués under the bust and a dramatic sheer mesh overlay that cascades into a unique bubble cape effect. This is an expensive vintage piece, but the seller is currently accepting offers. Anyway, can you really put a price on awesome? Click on the images below to see the actual listing.
Harper’s Bazaar in Review
Sadly, the December 2012 / January 2013 issue of Harper’s Bazaar failed to inspire us this month. Still, we soldiered on and uncovered a few glimmers of style worth re-purposing this holiday season.
Here’s one of our favorite looks from the issue, which would work great from office to holiday party. This could’ve easily come off as a cater waiter ensemble, if not for the ultra-high waist, flared trousers, cummerbund belt with minimalist chain, and exaggerated Peter Pan collar. Easy to replicate too.
Cobalt sweater paired with cobalt, sharkskin cigarette trousers. We don’t see enough of this color in mixed monochromatic textures, so well done, Harper’s.
Monochromatic and monotextured, long and lean, this almost looks like a tailored, wool knit jumpsuit. But it’s not. Another easy to replicate look, if you have the lines to pull it off. It’s lovely to be warm and hot at the same time.
‘Zou Bisou Bisou’ Part Deux
Earlier this week we curated a collection of vintage black dresses inspired by the season premiere of Mad Men. Unfortunately, we found so many fantastic pieces on eBay and etsy that we had to divide them into two features. Below you will find part deux of This Week’s Look, which features a number of vintage 1960s black mini (or mini-adjacent) dresses, all available on etsy or eBay today. Click on each image to see the individual listing.

The ‘Zou Bisou Bisou’ Collection
The season premiere of Mad Men this week spawned tons of parodies inspired by that little birthday song and dance captured below. But our eyes were transfixed on that gorgeous black mini dress with its sheer, accordion pleated chiffon angel sleeves and rhinestone encrusted collar. That’s why this week we have curated for you a collection of vintage black dresses, all up for grabs on eBay right now. Click on each image below to see the actual listing.
Vintage Halston
“Vintage Halston” may be my most favorite combination of words ever. In fact, if I were into role playing it would probably be my safe word. This week we found this rare 1970s Halston aubergine wool and silk caped gown from the label’s 1976 collection. Offered by jayparkinson on etsy. Click on the image below to see the listing.
Three Plus One
It can be challenging to find great vintage pieces to fit every shape, which makes the three dresses below even more special. The first one is a 1970s-era silk brocade frock from Geoffrey Beene‘s Boutique label so you know it’s expertly crafted. The shirtwaist bodice and a-line skirt would be flattering on just about any body shape and the extra-long ascot can be tied in numerous ways. And check out those amazing rhinestone studded buttons! Such great details here, which is to be expected from this vintage boutique label (41″ bust, 34″ waist).
And below the Geoffrey Beene is a vintage 1960s butterscotch and black plaid jersey dress with neck tie (42″ bust, 36″ waist, 41″ hips).
Finally, we have an adorable powder blue mod day dress with a square neckline and decorative buttons (38″ bust, 34″ waist, 40″ hips).
