Unisex Vintage Vests
Welcome to part two of our two-part expose’ on vintage vests. As you may recall, part one skewed more toward our feminine demographic, with plans to showcase the masculine end of the vest range in part two. However, as we plowed eBay and etsy for vintage men’s vests and waistcoats, we began to see this as more of a unisex offering. Whatever your genitalia, this week we found something for everyone, including fans of “Back to the Future.” Click on each image below to see the seller’s listing.

The Sammy Miller
When Sir Richard Branson made his inaugural tourist space flight in 2010, he wore a specially-made Belstaff jacket. Founded in England in 1924, Belstaff is famed for high-performance jackets, worn by motorcyclists and pilots. One of my favorites is Belstaff’s “Sammy Miller” biker jacket, named after the 1950s motorcycle legend. At $1085, the price tag is painful, but this is one of those jackets you will wear until death do you part, most likely diving out of an airplane or in a fiery motorcycle crash. Available on mrporter.com.

Most of these wool coats and jackets are vintage, some are not, but any one of them will surely make you the most debonair dude on deck. Click on each image below to see the full listing.

Have a Cowl
Scarves are great, but sometimes a girl (or a guy) needs a cowl. Although, when men wear them I think they’re called gaiters.
Whatever you call them, I prefer tightly crocheted or knitted neck warmers with functional buttons because they offer more flexibility; you can go for a prim buttoned up look, a partially buttoned open collar look, or let it hang loosely down your shoulders like a capelet. Most cowls are also easy to stash in your purse or bag when not in use (depending on the size of your bag that is). One more thing, if you’re the fashionable type, definitely stay away from fleece cowls. Unless you’re going for that extreme camping look.
The absolute best place to find original, handmade cowls is etsy of course. Below are some of my favorites (there’s even one for dogs). Click on each image to see the listing.

Mad Men Style: 1960s Fedoras
Today on This Week’s Look, we are sipping afternoon mimosas on the lanai and talking men’s hats. Specifically, vintage 1960s stingy brimmed fedoras, trilbys and Homburgs. Think Leonardo DiCaprio in “Catch Me if You Can.” Sammy and Frank vacationing in Palm Springs.
But enough about Leo, Sammy and Frank, let’s talk about my amazing Harold. He is a hat man. Correction: He is THE hat man. Among other things. And I am, of course, a hat woman, so it is only natural that I should fall in love with a man who can pull off a hat every day of the week. In fact, he is such a natural, I suspect the nurses put a wool felt fedora on him when he was born rather than one of those snuggly newborn skull caps. He is French after all, so one can never be sure what goes on over there. Harold’s hat collection isn’t necessarily staggering. That is to say, his collection will never rival mine in sheer numbers, but it is robust enough to provide a hat for just about any occasion.
Back to my original thought. 1960s trilbys. These short-brimmed hats are destined to become ubiquitous once the new season of Mad Men premieres next year, so if you’re in the market for one, I would do my shopping now before the rise in demand and prices follow. There are some amazing, original 1960s toppers out there right now, and we have selected some of the best for our readers. Click on each image below to see the full listing.
